Social Networking and me…
Where do we go from here? I’m overwhelmed with the volume of information available to me and the ease of it’s accessibility. I’m amazed at how technology continues to evolve and how people learn more and more without instructions. I’m amazed at how much time the technology consumes for the lack of benefits it seems to yield for me personally.
I am currently engaged in a deep study of the Spiritual Disciplines and continue struggling to reconcile the idea of solitude, silence and other disciplines in the light of the above mentioned technological advances. At present, I’m alone in my office and there’s no one here to talk to. And yet, I am bombarded by the chime on Tweetdeck going off every few minutes as friends tweet. I am alone and quiet but I am neither being silent or experiencing solitude.
Last night I sat down to watch the Grammy’s and updated my Twitter account from my phone. Simultaneously, my Facebook status was updated and people responded immediately. Fortunately I didn’t have my computer open because I would have been slammed with people responding to my comments about Grammy performances. Meanwhile, my phone is buzzing unceasingly with updates from fellow tweeters.
I don’t feel like I have much more to say on the matter. This is only an observation. I am sincerely overwhelmed. I feel like I need to unplug and get some time with Jesus!

It may sound drastic, but I’ve been there and I have a suggestion:
1. Tent
2. Woods
3. Bible
4. Notebook
5. 2 gallon jugs of water
6. 2 nights
If you can carve away the time…give it a try.

Really…I hardly ever hear a tweet out of anyone. ..but then I do have my volume down on my computer and phone and….I don’t have 14,000 FRIENDS!
I apologize in advance for the probable break in the silence that this post will most likely cause when I hit the publish button.
Amazing blog.
Love from your brother

That is the question. Where do you draw the line. It’s great to “connect” with people, but at what cost. What relationships do we really cultivate. What will our society look like in a few years, will I communicate with my kids and wife by only using technology, will the human touch at some point, not matter.
things to think about.
